Planning and Inventory Manager

Job Description  :

Job Purpose 

The Planning and Inventory Manager effectively manages the planning, inventory and stores functions ensuring products are planned through the production process and delivered. The role will be primarily responsible for driving the sales, inventory and operations planning process ensuring that material and capacity constraints are carefully managed and any risks mitigated.

The job holder will also be responsible for managing all aspects of inventory control from raw material held in stores to work in progress and finished goods with a focus on driving up stock turns.
 

Key Tasks

  • Manage the planning and stores teams (holidays, 1:2:1 reviews and setting objectives)
  • The Planning and Inventory Manager drives the sales, inventory and operations planning process.
  • Manage the perpetual inventory counting process, including monthly reporting.
  • Driving down overall inventory levels and therefore increasing stock turns.
  • Reviewing current methods to highlight areas for improvement.
  • Ensuring new products are introduced smoothly through the SIOP process.
  • Liaising with engineering, suppliers and other departments when necessary.
  • Supporting the change to a continuous improvement culture within operations.
  • Preparing and delivering monthly reports and KPI’s relating to planning and inventory.
  • Monitoring planning parameters within the ERP system ensuring the correct signals are driving the purchasing team.
  • Any other duties as required by management
     

Knowledge, Skills & Experience 

  • Degree qualified or equivalent technical experience.Managing planning parameters in ERP systems.Implementation of continuous improvement methods.
  • Previous experience in a planning and inventory management
  • Experience of lean or Six Sigma is an advantage
  • The Planning and Inventory Manager must be a team player.
  • Must have good communication skills and able to liaise with various internal departments and with suppliers.
  • Computer literate, proficient with a wide range of software packages.
  • Background in manufacturing practices.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to own work priorities.Ability to analyse problems and develop solutions.
  • Confidentiality/trust.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Accurate and attentive to detail
  • Assign and reschedule tasks within planning/stores departmental constraints
  • Using own initiative to ensure material is available at cost for production builds.
  • Prioritise own workload.
